7 card stud poker - Probabilities
Because the open cards come one betting round at a time,
a player’s ability to estimate the ever-changing
pot odds is more important than knowing the odds of
your hand improving, particularly when you know nothing
else about the rest of the game.
In a seven-person game, if five players see the fourth
card, each player will have seen 14 of the 52 cards.
Remember that your chances of getting the card or cards
you need out of the remaining 38 are dramatically affected
by the ones you have already seen.
As soon as the fifth card is dealt, you will have seen
more cards, and therefore, have more information. There
will be fewer cards left, so you’ll have to re-evaluate
your chances.
An approximate indication of your chances of improving
to a winning hand will require close attention to the
cards dealt and an awareness of who has folded.
You should make sure you are not too self-centric and
give due consideration to your competitors. Putting
together and what you see in his open cards, combined
with his earlier betting moves, will provide a wealth
of clues about what he is likely to have or about what
he is looking for.
